Higher ecodesign requirements for household vacuum cleaners

Second phase of Commission Regulation (EU) No. 666/2013 in force since 1 September 2017

The second phase of Commission Regulation (EU) No. 666/2013 regarding ecodesign requirements for vacuum cleaners entered into force on 1 September 2017.

The existing requirements for annual energy consumption, rated input power, dust pick-up from carpet and from hard floor with crevices become stricter and furthermore, new limits for dust re-emission, sound power level, durability of the hose and operational motor life-time enter into force.

The specifications regarding the operational motor life-time test have so far not been harmonised. In a joint position paper of 7 August 2017 CECED and EUnited Cleaning recommend testing according to EN 60312-1:2017, paragraph 6.Z3 with empty dust receptacle for 550 h.
