Radio Equipment Directive 2014/53/EU replaces R&TTE Directive

Since 13 June 2017, the Radio Equipment Directive 2014/53/EU has been applicable; the old R&TTE Directive is history.

The new directive aims at a more efficient use of the radio spectrum and more efficiency of receivers in order to eliminate radio interference. Both manufacturers of radio equipment and integrators of radio modules in end products must take  the new requirements into account.

Moreover, equipment formerly evaluated under the terms of the R&TTE Directive must now be re-evaluated according to the RED. For this purpose ETSI standards have been or are currently being prepared and have been or will be published in the Official Journal of the EU. For the key radio applications which are most widely used (2.4 GHz WLAN, SRD, Bluetooth, ...) ETSI standards are already available.

Find up-to-date information about the RED on the EU website.
