Laser classification and photobiological safety - Product Testing and Certification of Lasers and LED

SLG tests lasers and LEDs extensively for safety in order to protect consumers' health. Moreover, lasers and LED are differentiated into classes, as radiation power of LEDs increases and lasers and LEDs differ in coherence and thus in their spectral image.

For laser sources, the harmonised standard DIN EN 60825-1 "Safety of laser products - Part 1: Equipment classification and requirements" applies in its current version of 2008. LEDs used for lighting purposes can be evaluated according to DIN EN 62471 "Photobiological safety of lamps and lamp systems", which has not yet been harmonised.

Additionally, we also evaluate ophthalmologic sources according to the DIN EN ISO 15004 family of standards.
