Product groups - lasers and LEDs
LEDs and lasers are frequently built into products of everyday use. In order to protect consumers from radiation hazardous to the eyes, lasers and LEDs are tested according to harmonized standards.
Ever increasing radiation power of LEDs and differences between LEDs and lasers in coherency and thus in the spectral image make a differentiation of the safety requirements for those radiation sources necessary.
For laser sources, the harmonized standard DIN EN 60825-1 "Safety of laser products - Part 1: Equipment classification and requirements" applies in its current version of 2008.
LED used for lighting purposes can be evaluated according to DIN EN 62471 "Photobiological safety of lamps and lamp systems", which however has not yet been harmonized. This standard also considers hazards by non-visible spectral components as well as hazards caused by other radiation sources used for lighting.
We can perform all tests of the standards mentioned above in our laboratories.
