Safety - Batteries and cells
Lithium-ion batteries and cells are more and more used in products of everyday life. In order to guarantee the safety of the consumers, the batteries are subjected to comprehensive tests which require special test and safety equipment, e.g. for simulating crushing, low pressure and vibration. SLG can provide complete testing services for lithium-ion batteries.
We provide tests based on the following regulations:
Tests according to UN recommendations on the transport of dangerous goods, Section 38.3, Rev. 5
| Test |
Practical background |
 |
Low pressure -
simulation of altitude |
Air transport at 15,000 m altitude |

 |
Vibration |
Vibrations during transport by truck or rail |
 |
Shock |
Fall from a great height |
 |
External short circuit |
Short cicuit of poles due to inadequate packaging |
 |

Damage, crushing during transport by forklift |
 |
Abnormal charging |
Check of internal safety systems |
 |
Forced discharge |
"Gradual" short-circuit of poles |
Safety test according to IEC 62133
During the safety test of lithium-ion batteries various situations are simulated which may occur in everyday use, such as incorrect fitting of a cell, over-charging, mechanical shock, vibrations, thermal abuse und total discharge.
From May 2012 on, IEC 62133 has to be applied compulsorily within the CB Scheme for tests of batteries for tools, garden appliances and e-mobility. Special regulations apply for audio-video devices, IT-systems and medical devices.
We are accredited for battery testing by the German national accreditation body DAkkS.
