Environmental simulation - - tests for degrees of protection provided by enclosures (IP code)
IP protection code is a defined labelling for the degree of protection provided by enclosures (for example of electric equipment). Test content is the protection of an enclosure against the ingress of solid foreign objects, against the access to hazardous parts and against the ingress water. Solid foreign objects could for example be human body parts, tools or dust.
IP protection tests are type tests. The IP code indicates the protection of an enclosure against ingress of solid foreign objects and water. Thus, the numeral code enables the drawing of conclusions to personal security, functional protection or the medium- and long-term functional safety of electric equipment.
Degrees of protection in compliance with IEC 60529 and DIN 40050 part 9
IP0X ... IP6X protection against the access to hazardous parts and protection against ingress of solid objects (dust)
IPX0 … IPX8 protection against ingress of water
combinations are possible as well (e.g. IP65)
Realisation of special IP code tests in compliance with DIN 40050 part 9 Tests for the verification of protection levels IPX4K (splash water with increased pressure) and IPX9K (high pressure/stream jet cleaning) especially for products used in the automotive and food industry.
