New EU Regulation on Energy Consumption Labelling in force since 1 August 2018

Raising transparency on energy efficiency of products

On 1 August 2018, the

REGULATION EU 2017/1369 OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND THE COUNCIL of 4 July 2017 setting a framework for energy labelling and repealing Directive 2010/30/EU

entered into force. The regulation mainly aims at reducing energy consumption by developing and using energy-efficient products.

To raise transparency and understanding among consumers the scale from A to G on the EU energy label will be applied uniformly for all product groups.

The regulation takes immediate effect. Transition periods are due to delegated acts for each product group which will replace in each case the former acts. In the near future, at the latest until 2 November 2018, such acts will be released by the EU for household dishwashers, household refrigerators, household washing machines, televisions and electrical lights and lamps.

Furthermore, a database including a consumer-oriented public part will be implemented by 1 January 2019, containing relevant information by suppliers on new models before they are placed on the market.
