Shipping of lithium batteries: Test summary now mandatory

Dispatchers are obliged to document results of UN Test Series 38.3

Since 1 January 2020 new requirements apply to shippers of lithium batteries. The passed tests of the test series UN 38.3 must now be documented in a test summary. It is no longer sufficient to provide general confirmation that these tests have been passed.

This means for responsible dispatchers (e.g. manufacturers, suppliers) that lithium batteries may now only be shipped with such a test summary. If this proof is not available, hauling companies will no longer accept lithium batteries for transport.

SLG Prüf- und Zertifizierungs GmbH provides the test summary of the UN test series as a "certificate" to its customers.
