Ecodesign

In order to ensure that energy efficiency is already incorporated in the product design, the EU has defined requirements regarding the ecodesign of energy-related products (ErP). The EU Ecodesign Directive 2009/125/EC aims at enhancing the environmental compatibility of such products and in particular at lowering their energy consumption.

Corresponding implementing measures determine minimum design criteria and technical parameters for different relevant product groups.

To some extent these minimum criteria also take into account the expectations of users/consumers. For lamps, for example, requirements on colour rendering and starting behaviour (i.e. how long it takes for the lamp to reach its intended brightness) have been determined.

We perform ecodesign tests e.g. for the following product groups:

• cooker hoods• room air conditioners
• flow heaters• vacuum cleaners
• electric ovens• tumble dryers
• dishwashers• washing machines
• refrigerators and freezers• washer-dryers
• lamps• luminaires
